Fri-10-Mar 2006 - Detonate presents... HIGH CONTRAST!!The name High Contrast needs no introduction anymore; though when a young Lincoln Barrett signed on the dotted line back in 2000 he was a complete unknown. Signed on the strength of his mini-disc demos, the Welsh wonder has smashed his way through the d+b scene in no time at all. He's been propelled to the front of the competitive global drum 'n' bass circuit, remixing the likes of the Streets and being invited to record an Essential Mix for the fabled Radio One, an honor traditionally reserved for more conventional dance artists. One of Hospital Records' crown jewels, High Contrast released his debut True Colours in 2002 to worldwide critical acclaim, with many publications placing it on their year-end best-of lists. His sophomore release, High Society, brings warm piano chords, strings and horns meshed with jazz-informed syncopated beats that fall far from the standard breaks that propel many a drum 'n' bass tune. The record's got soul buried in its grooves.

Straight out of France, Clare Cellars brings you the DMC World Team Champs, C2C.
C2C was born in 1998 from the meeting of 4 french DJs : Greem, Atom, Pfel and 20Syl.
Member of an emerging movement called "scratch music" (or turntablism), this crew keeps working on finding original sounds and knows how to benefit from its technical control to put forward some musical quality which makes its identity.
Each member uses his turntable as an instrument, recreating thus in turn drums or bass guitars, scratching a riff of guitar or shearing the brass... to lead to a general harmony such as bands made up of instruments known as "traditional".
This rise leads them in parallel to perform all around France with Q-Bert, A-Track, The Scratch Perverts or DJ Vadim for example. Exploiting at the very maximum human as well as material possibilities (mixers effects, feedback, larsens...), the show presented on tour is out of breath for the listener. They link tracks and work on their own way hip hop and funk classics again, giving them a new birth. The denseness of sequences is cut by technical parts meant to underline individual performances. Routines give way to live compositions mixing turntables of one, machines of another or rhymes rapped by 20Syl finish brilliantly with the 6 minutes having made them champions of the world.
plus the new SKUFF & INJA SHOW!! (Delegates of Culture)

Fri-7-Oct 2005 - Def Fly & Real presents KLASHNEKOFF & TERRA FIRMAThe cellars are proud to bring you Ricochet Klashnekoff... one of the freshest talents on the UK Hip Hop scene at the moment, and with a wealth of P.A.s, radio appearances and magazine features to his credit all signs suggest that he is well on his way to the top of the game. Ricochet is joined by his crew; Kyza Smirnoff and Scriblah Dangoff who are all excellent lyricists and freestylers.
The founder member of the Terra Firma crew, Klashnekoff, is a Hackney born and bred father of two, whose west-Indian roots have proved to be a strong influence on his music. He chooses to leave the labelling of his style to the masses, but does admit to drawing inspiration from a bank of talent that reads like a trans-genre hall of fame, with appearances from the likes of David Bowie and Bob Marley. Wherever or whatever his brand of Hip Hop there is no doubt that it has definitely quenched the underground’s thirst for something new. His compilation 'The Sagas of Klashnekoff' has confirmed his reputation for great lyrics while the banging track ‘Murda’ is so heavy it still rocks out nearly three years on. It’s the UK’s answer to the legendary ‘Shook Ones Part 2’. His style is dark, yet thoughtful and intelligent, touching on a diverse range of topics from romance to racism. He reports on the evils of life, yet avoids glamorising them after the fashion of others. Make sure you don't miss this quality act.
Support comes from DJ Demon, from the Throw Down in Peterborough who has made his way to the DMC's so has reputable skills to get the night going.

Four. Regularly playing the major London venues, they have also broadcast a session on Radio Three, and are currently touring their new album, Last Chance Disco.

The Cellars bring you pure British talent… after massive underground hype, Wiley has established himself at the forefront of the UK urban scene. Originally a member of the Pay As U Go cartel, Wiley has had success as a producer making beats for Dizzee Rascal and More Fire Crew, whilst as a founder member of the Roll Deep Crew, has put together their new album. The incredibly talented MC has defined the musical style of ‘Eski’ and is not to be missed.

Two of Cambridge's premier promoters of good music join forces for a wicked end to the term. In the last year CRYPTIC has hosted Krafty Kuts, Freelance Hellraiser and Breakin' Bread, while ECLEKTIX has answered strongly with Trash's Erol Alkan and the Foreign Beggars. This time around, in the best venue in town we give you...
Soundhog (of Corsair Records) on the mash-up tip: part of the bootleg movement from the beginning, cutting and mixing unlikely combinations for release via his website (Eminem vs Led Zeppelin, Christina Aguilera vs. Jet, that kind of thing), and producing some superb full-length mixes for Xfm, Virgin and BBC Radio Wales. He continues to push the boundaries with his DJ sets - expect cut-and-paste mastery.
The Warm Up: Two crews have been engaged in a war of words all year, and they step up for a one-night-only head to head soundclash. The Get Down Crew bring hip-hop with a distinctly Cambridge attitude, while the Dhol Cartel (they've come a long way since the Cellars gave birth to them) hit back hard with Asian flava. Watch them attempt to take each other down with some mean beats.
Don't be late.

What can be said about SkinnyMan that you haven't heard as a rumour already?
Supporters and followers of UK hip hop already talk of Skinnyman in the tones of hushed reverence and will almost certainly have a captivating story to tell along the lines of – seeing him stealing the show at Eminem’s first ever UK performance, his winning battles against numerous other rappers, or performing just hours after being released from custody and narrating his experence live onstage.
Already one of the most highly regarded rappers and talented lyricists in the UK, Skinny narrates with a burning passion and unwavering honesty, painting a vivid picture of what his own life, and the lives of many others, entail within an inner city council estate and its ensuring ‘estate of mind’.

Rather than sueing, the record execs embraced him and since then he's worked on mixing Ian Brown and Gomez, as well as many more bootlegs of his own and regular slots on Xfm's 'The Remix' show. His DJ sets are known for their surprises, but always keep the crowd moving - think Soulwax as 2manyDJs crossed with Fatboy Slim.
